EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY PROGRAM
BUILDING LEADERS BY BUILDING CHARACTER
"I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" Matthew 25:40
BLAST was established in 1997 as a character-driven, reduced-cost extended school day program at Los Penasquitos Elementary School, located in the Rancho Penasquitos area of San Diego.
Mission: Local Community
BLAST exists to radiate a heart of love to the surrounding community by providing a caring and supportive environment where the needs of the whole child are protected and fostered.
We want to develop a network of support that will stimulate relationships, build a sense of community and offer positive role modeling.
Since 1997, BLAST has provided reduced-cost before and after school care, academic assistance, and character-building enrichment to hundreds of at-risk families who have limited choices for childcare due to limited household income.
Serving A Need
The application process assesses the needs of each family, focusing especially on those that qualify for free or reduced-price meals at school and single parents who work and/or are in school full time.
It is our sincere desire to offer services to ALL who need it, including the 20-30 children on our waiting list at any given time.
Approximately two-thirds of our budget is funded by each enrolled family’s small monetary contribution. The rest of our program funding comes from a combination of assistance from community organizations, ongoing fundraisers, and private donations.
